FUTURE RUIN OF A LIGHTHOUSE
Inspired by the mystical paintings of C. D. Friedrich - especially those of majestic ruins - the aim was to design a ruin. Not as a finished product, but as a hypothetical future outcome.
By examining how materials change over the years, a combination of materials and techniques were brought together to form a lighthouse, a pier and a palisade. Subject to the parameters set by the ravages of time and the tides of the sea, the structure will one day be nothing more than a reminder of times gone by - and a fine subject for Friedrich to paint

THE RADICALISM OF JULIAAN LAMPENS
Based on the design for a cultural centre by the Belgian architect Juliaan Lampens, this two-metre span was successfully realised in concrete. This proved to some extent that his radical ideas were not merely conceptual but - with the necessary structural calculations - could certainly be realised.
